What Edit Bookmarks does

Edit Bookmarks shows a PDF’s outline bookmarks as an editable list, so you can rename them, point them at different pages, add new ones or remove them, then save the updated document.

Bookmarks are the clickable outline down the side of a PDF viewer — the table of contents that jumps you to a chapter or section. A long report without them is a wall to scroll through; one with wrong or missing bookmarks is worse, because the shortcuts lie. Most tools that build them cost money or want your file on their server.

This tool reads whatever outline your PDF already has, resolves each entry to the page it actually lands on, and lays it out as a simple list you can edit. Rename an entry, change the page it jumps to, add the ones that were missing, or delete the lot — then download a copy with the new outline written in. It runs entirely in your browser.

Step by step

How to use Edit Bookmarks

  1. Upload the PDF

Drop in your file. Any existing bookmarks are read and listed with the page each one points to.

  2. Edit the list

Rename entries, change their target page, add bookmarks with “Add bookmark”, or remove ones you don’t want.

  3. Save and download

Click Save bookmarks. A copy with the rebuilt outline downloads immediately.

Details & limits

Edit Bookmarks: details and limits

  • Saving replaces the whole outline with your list — it is not a merge. Whatever bookmarks the list shows when you save are exactly what the downloaded file will have.

  • The editor is a single flat list. If your PDF had nested bookmarks, they are flattened into one level and saved flat; the original hierarchy is not kept. The tool tells you when it has flattened something.

  • Each bookmark jumps to the top of the page you set (a “fit page” view). Bookmarks that pointed to an exact scroll position or zoom are re-pointed to the top of that page.

  • Only the outline changes. Pages, text, form fields and everything else in the document are left exactly as they were.

  • A blank title is skipped on save, so an empty row won’t create a nameless bookmark. Saving with no titled rows clears the outline entirely.
