What Unlock PDF does

Unlock PDF removes the password from a PDF you already know the password for, producing a copy that opens without one.

Password prompts stop being protection and start being friction once a document is somewhere safe. A statement you download every month, a file you need to search across, a PDF you want to merge into a larger document — retyping the password every time is a tax you no longer need to pay.

Give the tool the file and its current password, and you get back a copy that opens freely. The decryption happens on your device, so neither the document nor the password is ever transmitted.

• This removes a password you already know. It cannot crack, guess or bypass one you do not have — if you have lost the password, this tool cannot help and neither can any honest one.

• A wrong password produces a clear message in the page and no download. Check for caps lock and try again.

• The unlocked copy opens with no password at all, so treat it with the care the password was giving you.

• Your original protected file is unchanged — unlocking always produces a new copy.

• The document title and author come through the unlock intact, along with the pages, the text and the form fields. That is worth stating because it was not always so: unlocking used to drop both, silently, and the unlocked copy arrived with those fields empty.
