What Add Page Numbers does

Add Page Numbers stamps sequential numbers onto every page of a PDF, with a choice of position, starting number and format.

Page numbers are the difference between a document and a pile of paper. They matter most exactly when a document is printed, dropped and reassembled, or referenced in a meeting — "see page 12" only works if page 12 says so.

Choose where the number sits, what it says, and where the count begins. Numbers are drawn as real text into the page, so they stay sharp when printed and searchable in a viewer.

Step by step

How to use Add Page Numbers

  1. Upload the PDF

Drop in the document you want to number.

  2. Choose a position

Pick any of the six positions — bottom centre, bottom right, top right and so on.

  3. Choose a format and starting number

Use a plain number, "Page 1", or "1 of N". Set Start at if this document continues from another.

  4. Apply and download

Click Add page numbers to download the numbered PDF.

Details & limits

Add Page Numbers: details and limits

  • Numbers are drawn as real embedded text, so they print sharply and can be searched or selected — not stamped as a picture.

  • "Start at" is for documents that continue from another one: set it to 24 and the first page is numbered 24. The "1 of N" total adjusts to match.

  • Numbers are added to every page, including any cover page. To skip a cover, split it off first, number the rest, then merge them back.

  • The number is drawn on top of existing content. If a page already has something in that corner, pick a different position.
