What Edit Metadata does
Edit Metadata reads a PDF’s title, author, subject, keywords and the software fields it carries, and lets you change or strip them entirely in your browser.
Every PDF carries a set of document properties — a title, an author, a subject, keywords, and usually the name of the software that created it. Most people never see them, but they travel with the file: search tools index them, document systems sort by them, and anyone who opens the file’s properties can read them. That makes them useful for organising a library and awkward when a draft goes out still stamped with the author’s name and the app it was written in.
This tool shows what your file actually holds and lets you rewrite or clear any of it. The current values are read with a real PDF renderer, so they show up even on permission-restricted files that some tools report as blank. Your changes are written back to the document properties only — the pages themselves are never touched — and a second, hidden copy of the metadata that PDFs can carry is removed at the same time, so what you set is what every reader sees.
How to use Edit Metadata
Upload the PDF
Drop in your file. Its current title, author, subject, keywords and software fields are read and shown.
Edit or clear the fields
Change any value, or use “Clear all fields” to blank everything for a clean, anonymous copy.
Save and download
Click Save metadata. A copy with the new document properties downloads immediately.

Editing metadata never touches a page. Text, images, form fields and bookmarks are all preserved, and the file barely changes size — this is a document-property edit, not a rebuild.
A PDF can hide a second copy of its title and author in an XMP packet that some viewers prefer over the visible properties. Saving here removes that packet, so the values you set — or clear — are the only ones any reader can find. That matters most when you are stripping a file for privacy.
“Creator” and “Producer” usually name the application and library that made the file, which is often the real giveaway of who authored it and how. Clear those too if you are scrubbing a document, not just the title and author.
Saving refreshes the modification date; the original creation date is left as it was.
A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first. A permission-restricted one — the kind that opens without a password — is decrypted as it is saved, exactly like every other editing tool here.
