What Annotate PDF does

Annotate PDF lets you draw, highlight, add text boxes and shapes onto PDF pages in your browser, then saves them permanently into the document.

Marking up a document is how feedback actually happens: circling the wrong figure, highlighting the clause that matters, writing "sign here" with an arrow. Doing it usually means either buying a PDF editor or uploading a confidential draft to a website.

This gives you the focused set that covers most real markup — freehand drawing, a highlighter, text boxes, rectangles and circles, in a range of colours, with undo and redo. Use the page controls to move through longer documents, then save a flattened copy with your annotations drawn permanently into the pages.

Step by step

How to use Annotate PDF

  1. Upload the PDF

Drop in your file. Each page renders so you can mark it up.

  2. Pick a tool and colour

Choose freehand draw, highlight, text, rectangle or circle, and select a colour and stroke size.

  3. Mark up the page

Draw directly on the page. Undo and redo are in the toolbar, and "clear page" wipes the current page.

  4. Move between pages

Use the page arrows for multi-page documents. Annotations are kept per page as you move around.

  5. Save and download

Click Save to download a copy with your annotations flattened into it.

Details & limits

Annotate PDF: details and limits

  • Annotations are flattened on save — drawn permanently into each page so they look identical in every PDF viewer, with no dependency on annotation support.

  • Your marks are baked in as a transparent PNG layer — about 108 DPI on a standard A4 or Letter page, lower on an oversized one — dropped on top of the untouched page. The original text and images keep their full quality; only the marks themselves are pixels, so they can soften if someone zooms in or prints very large.

  • Because they are flattened, they cannot be edited again afterwards. Keep your original if you might want to revise the markup.

  • Your original file is never modified. Only the downloaded copy carries the annotations.

  • Pages are rendered and marked up entirely on your device — a confidential draft never leaves your browser.
