What PDF to Word does
PDF to Word reconstructs a text-based PDF into an editable .docx — grouping positioned text back into paragraphs, headings and styled runs.
This is the hardest conversion on the site to do honestly, and the honesty is the point. A PDF does not store paragraphs, headings or tables — only glyphs painted at fixed x/y positions. Getting Word back means rebuilding the structure the format discarded, inferred from where the text sits and which fonts it uses. So the result is a faithful reconstruction of the words, not a pixel copy of the page.
Your PDF is read in the browser with pdf.js: the text of each page, its positions and font sizes are grouped into lines, lines into paragraphs by the gaps between them, and larger text is marked as headings. Bold and italic are inferred from the font names, best-effort. The result is written as a real .docx you can open and edit in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
How to use PDF to Word
Upload a PDF
Drop in a text-based PDF. Scanned PDFs have no text to extract — OCR them first.
Convert
Click Convert to Word. Each page is read in turn and progress is shown.
Download and edit
The editable .docx downloads automatically, ready to open in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
PDF to Word: details and limits
The document is reconstructed, not cloned. Paragraphs, heading sizes and best-effort bold and italic come across; tables become ordinary paragraphs, multi-column pages can interleave because reading order is inferred, and images, headers, footers and exact page breaks are not reconstructed.
A scanned PDF is images of pages with no text layer, so there is nothing to convert. The tool stops and points you to OCR PDF rather than downloading a blank document, and it reports any pages that had no selectable text.
Password-protected files are turned away with a clear message — unlock them first. The text stays real and editable, never an image of the page.
